10. Marathi – 83 Million Native Speakers
The language’s origin is in Indo-European area and it is spoken by around 83 million people from Maharashtra, India. It is one of the 22 scheduled India languages, and officially/co-officially spoken language in this country and in Goa states of Western India. After Hindi and Bengali, number of Marathi native speakers is the third largest in India. That’s why it ranks 10th in the list of most native speaker’s language in the world.
9. Western Punjabi (Lahnda) – 93 Million Native Speakers
It is primarily found in Western Punjabi and is spoken in Pakistan and India. It belongs to the group of north-western Indo-Aryan varieties of language. The name “Lahnda” means “western” in Punjabi area so it does not include Eastern Punjabi. The land Punjab was divided into two parts by British army long time ago.

Nearly all native speakers of Japanese live in their country – Japan. Japan is a country in East Asia that surrounded by sea. Japanese has considered to be influenced by Chinese. Other than living in Japan, most of the Japanese speakers are living in the US, Brazil and the Philippines.
7. Russian – 154 Million Native Speakers
Russian is the 7th most spoken language with 154 million native speakers in the globe. It is the official language in Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, which is widely used. Russian is in the group of Indo-European languages and part of the Balto-Slavic branch. Some people think it sounds like Portuguese.
6. Portuguese – 221 Million Native Speakers
Portuguese is a Romance language that originates in the Iberian Peninsula of Europe, which is the official language of countries such as Portugal, Angola, Cape Verde and Brazil etc. Meanwhile, it is also the co-official language in Macau. We’ll say people who says Portuguese is “Lusophone”.
5. Bengali – 228 Million Native Speakers
Bengali (also known as Bangla) belongs to Indo-Aryan language, which is widely spoken in Bangladesh and India. It is not only Bangladesh’s official language, but also the official language of the states of West Bengal, Tripura and the Barak Valley region in India.
4. Hindi – 341 Million Native Speakers

English is greatly influenced by other Germanic languages, particularly Old Norse, Latin and French.

Spanish is also a Romance language (same as English) that originated in the Iberian Peninsula of Europe. It is a national language with near 500 million speakers. It is spoken widely in Spain and the Americas. It is also the world’s fourth-most spoken language, after English, Hindi and Chinese.
1. Mandarin Chinese – 918 Million Speakers
The Champion goes to – Tada! Mandarin Chinese!! It is a group of language varieties that forms the Sinitic branch of the Sino-Tibetan languages. It is mainly spoken by the ethnic Han Chinese (as the majority among many ethnic groups in in China) and many minority ethnic groups in Greater China.
